Drs. Bill Stone and Xiaolu Hsi from Harvard Medical School was invited by Dr. Raymond Chan to hold a 2-day training workshop (Oct 26th-27th) to the members of the Neuropsychology and Applied Cognitive Neuroscience (NACN) Lab of the Institute of Psychology. The purpose of the workshop was to train members of the Lab to be acquainted with the evaluation of clinical symptomatology of schizophrenia and the at-risk groups.
Dr. Bill Stone is the Assistant Professor at the Department of Psychiatry of Harvard Medical School. He is serving as the director of clinical neuropsychology of Massachusetts Mental Health Centre. He is also in-charging of the neuropsycholgy data of the Consortium on the Genetics of Schizophrenia (COGS), the largest consortium initiated by National Institute of Mental Health and experts of schizophrenia research in the United States. His research interests mainly lie in the neuropsychological performances in schizophrenia and bipolar disorders, and their nonpsychotic first-degree relatives with negative symptoms similar to the patients.
Dr. Xiaolu Hsi is the Clinical Affiliate at both the Harvard Medical School and Massachusetts Institute of Technology. She is specialized in clinical psychology involving psychological assessment and intervention for mentally ill patients and at-risk groups. She has been actively involving in the early detection and intervention project for schizophrenia.
After the training workshop, Dr. Chan and his students had shared their ongoing projects in schizophrenia and at-risk groups with Drs. Stone and His. They further explored future collaborative possibility on research in at-risk groups and schizophrenia as well as bipolar disorders. They all agreed this was a successful training workshop and it was the commencement of the collaboration between Harvard and NACN Lab on schizophrenia and at-risk group projects.
