British and Canadian neuropsychologists visiting the Neuropsychology and Applied Cognitive Neuroscience (NACN) Laboratory of the Institute of Psychology

Professor Catherine Mateer and Dr. Kimberly Kerns from Department of Psychology, University of Victoria, Canada visited the Neuropsychology and Applied Cognitive Neuroscience (NACN) Laboratory of the Institute of Psychology during May 4th-5th 2010. Prof. Mateer is international renowned clinical neuropsychologist specialized in neuropsychological rehabilitation for traumatic brain injury. She is also the Associate Vice-President of the University of Victoria. Dr. Kerns is expert in child Neuropsychology, especially in ADHD and autism. Prof. Mateer and Dr. Kerns had a short but fruitful discussion with Dr. Raymond Chan of the NACN Lab. They all recognized the common research interests in neuropsychological studies in both healthy and clinical populations Dr. Kerns also spent a half day in the NACN Lab and discussed with the colleagues and postgraduate students there.

On the other hand, Dr. Huw Williams from School of Psychology, University of Exeter also paid visit to the NACN Lab on April 23rd 2010. Dr. Williams is the chair of the division of neuropsychology of the British Society of Psychology, and the co-director of the Centre for Clinical Neuropsychology Research. Dr. Williams has visited the NACN Lab last year. For this short visit, Dr. Williams would like to follow up the discussed issues of collaborative neuropsychological rehabilitation work with the NACN Lab members.

Prof. Mateer, Drs. Kerns and Williams recognized and appreciated very much the development of psychology in mainland China. However, they also noticed that there is still a need to further develop neuropsychology and related work in China. A stronger link should be reinforced and facilitated between mainland China and international faculties in the near future. They all would like to establish a long-term collaborative partnership with the NACN Lab members and contributed to the development of neuropsychology in mainland China.
