Professor Jianxin Zhang, a deputy director of the Institute of Psychology CAS, was appointed as a third term member of the Asia-Pacific Region Committee of International Council for Science (ICSU).
ICSU Asia-Pacific Region Committee, now with 28 country-members, was established in 2005 in order to coordinate and promote scientific research and application work in Asia-Pacific areas. Currently the office of ICSU region committee is located in Malaysia. The committee is composed of 10 experts from various disciplines. They are firstly recommended by the country-members of Asia-Pacific Region, and then selected and appointed by the ICSU headquarters. They assume the role for a term of three years and for at most two consecutive terms.
Professor Kan Zhang, the former director of the Institute of Psychology, CAS, was the member of the ICSU Asia-Pacific Region Committee for the first term (2005-2007) and the second term (2008-2010). With the support of the Secretariat of the Chinese Psychological Society and under the guidance of China Association for Science and Technology (CAST), Professor Kan Zhang has successfully accomplished the mission given by CAST and ICSU, and will complete his second term by the end of this year. Now nomination of a psychologist by CAST again as its representative to work in the Asia-Pacific region committee indicates that the works of the Chinese Psychological Society and importance of ICSU are highly evaluated by CAST. Professor Jianxin Zhang can become eminent among manyother nominees because he has a strong international background of academic and work experience.
