Dr. Raymond Chan from CAS Key Laboratory of Mental Health, Institute of Psychology Has Recently Been Elected as Member of the European Academy of Sciences and Arts

Dr. Raymond CHAN from the Neuropsychology and Applied Cognitive Neuroscience (NACN) Laboratory, and the CAS Key Laboratory of Mental Health, Institute of Psychology has recently been elected as member (Medicine) of the European Academy of Sciences and Arts on December 3rd 2021, in recognition of his sustained outstanding contributions to the understanding of psychopathology of mental disorders, especially in early detection and intervention for mental disorders. His work on neurological soft signs, anhedonia and amotivation in both clinical and subclinical samples has received much attention and recognition from scholars from psychology, psychiatry, and neuroscience fields.

The mission of the Academy is to stimulate cross-disciplinary collaboration between reputable scientists of all disciplines, leading artists and practitioners of governance. Their purpose is to analyze important societal challenges and to help solving complex issues for the wellbeing of Europeans’ and others’ future.

The Academy has brought together over 2000 eminent scholars and practitioners, among them 34 Nobel Prize winners, from across Europe. They are divided into 8 classes: Humanities; Medicine; Arts; Natural Sciences; Social Sciences, Law and Economics; Technical and Environmental Sciences; and World Religions.

Dr. Chan has been actively conducting research in identifying biomarkers for mental and brain disorders, especially in schizophrenia spectrum disorders and mood disorders. His recent work has extended to a wider spectrum of neurodevelopmental and neurodegenerative disorders including autistic spectrum disorders and Alzheimer’s disease and their corresponding subclinical counterparts.
