Abstract:
Perceiving the world around you seems to require no effort. Open your eyes and you can easily distinguish different objects in various colors, recognize familiar faces, avoid moving objects and interact with the outside world. Of course there is no projection screen in the brain. Instead, hundreds of millions of cells inside your brain are working together to achieve what is in fact an extraordinary task. Moreover, what is out there is not what is perceived, as evidenced by visual illusions. In this talk, research into an everyday human function will be presented that may change the way you look at things, literally.
