The behavioral and neural predictors of early development of visual specialization of Chinese character processing

Natural Science Foundation of China

PI:Su Li

The current project aims to explore the behavioral and neural predictors of early development of visual specialization of Chinese characters processing. The participants are 3- to 6- years old children, and a longitudinal design is adopted. Children's early print knowledge, resting EEG and task-related EEG are measured. The findings of the present project will contribute to reveal the neural mechanism of visual word processing, and provide direct evidence for understanding neural correlates of Chinese character processing. The identification of behavioral and neural predictors of early development of visual specialization of Chinese characters processing also contributes to the early recognition and intervention of dyslexicchildren.
